Let it go, Let it go...

Let it go, Let it go... not everything is frozen into your life.

Our family belongings at one time were beyond vain. Our Arizona property was 3400 sq. ft with a 1200 sq. ft guest house attached to a 4 car garage filled with a corvette, Jaguar XJ6, an overdone 4x4, and an airplane sitting at the local airport. Our two race shops 1300 miles apart housed 2 pro lites, 1 superbuggy, 2 desert cars, 9 quads, 3 Buells, and spares, gear, tools and haulers for all of them. Our Nebraska house was 2600 sq. ft. on 40 acres. The home had a kitchen with 3 ovens and an indoor barbeque. The list of overdoing it goes on and on. It was before any proverbial bubbles burst in real estate, stocks or anywhere else. Times were good.

The homes were lost and we squeezed what we thought was important into a 24ft truck headed for Oregon. That was heartbreaking to do. Our "stuff" was strung out in the back of the local bar in the small town we lived in. An auctioneer disbursed our belongings at pennies on the dollar... money we were grateful to receive. Upon arriving in Oregon we saw a need for auto detailing and had two more garage sales to open a detail shop. It was a risky step but paid off as today we are on a financial ground zero with our eyes on the horizon. We have that little detail shop to thank for that. We also met some great friends with Newmark Custom Detail but we'll get to that in other posts, I'll stick to letting it go.

Do you know how a freezer can overtake things over time? Ice builds up over products and food that's been in there too long. The only way to fix it is defrost the freezer, toss the stuff that got burned and start over with fresh food and what you can save. We cleaned out our life with the same approach one would take to defrost and disinfect that old freezer.

However, it didn't stop with things and assets. Television is one of the first signs of financial disaster on the horizon. That was 2009 for us. By the summer of 2011 we could afford TV again but have never let it back into our home. Cigarettes, soda/soft drinks, all went bye-bye. Microwaves bring a buck or two at yard sales, we put ours out at the sale to open the shop. Our bodies all improved in numerous ways. We feel better, we're rarely sick. But more importantly our time with each other greatly improved, our smiles replaced stress and worry that dripped away with all the "stuff".

The sunsets in Nebraska can be breathtaking. This very last one seem to say... Are you sure you want to go?

We usually will leave a real rose but no flower shop was open past 6pm so a fake one from the general store had to do. It's a tradition that Glenn and I started doing when we left our very 1st apartment together. It's a way of saying "Thank You".

Our final stretch and its getting tight. We had to leave some stuff behind. Fully packed! No looking back now! Let it go!

Saying good-bye to the ticket shack. We had a dream to build a motorsports facility in the middle of corn fields! I know... it was a "Field of Dreams" kind of thing but no master legends came out of the cornfields. We only had ourselves to blame. In the end I learned there is no blame... just growth.

Sierra was digging taking the pictures and I have tons. So, only a few made this album. It kept her busy and her mind off the move and saying good bye to her friends.

Hey Momma, Don't worry! Every little thing gonna be alright! Sierra taking pictures of her Momma with a serious look.

We had two syberian huskys at the time. Emily loved this park and every place we stopped. She did not like to travel and as far as behavior goes... she was the worst. She cried and howled quite a bit and sometimes flat out refused to get in the car.

We were all so excited to finally made it Oregon... stretching our legs before the last stretch to the coast.

A chore ahead but only took us a couple weeks to unpack and figure out what we were going to keep and sell. We still had too much stuff!

We decided to see what our surrounding area looked like. Boy, were we in for a treat and a much needed nature hike.

Kids were excited to hike and already we were doing things as a family. Oregon was growing on us.

Sierra saying "We made It to the top!" To me this moment was poetic because I felt the same way... Yes, my dear we did make it. Our journey has just begun.
